Jan Murray

Mat certified pilates instructor, Edinburgh

Jan’s relationship with pilates began more than 22 years ago when she was on the look out for an exercise programme to complement her passion for rock climbing. It didn’t take long for her to see the benefits of regular pilates practice - giving her the strength, stamina and flexibility to tackle her favourite climbing routes. The logical next step was to learn how to teach the pilates method.

Jan qualified in 2007 from the Body Control Pilates Training Academy and since then, has taught pilates matwork - from beginner to advanced level - in a variety of physiotherapy and studio settings. She continues to build skills and knowledge in anatomy and movement, including gaining qualifications - with distinction - in both Pilates for Back Care and Bone Health.

Over the years, Jan has worked with people of all ages and fitness abilities - from people who take little exercise to runners, cyclists and climbers. She loves helping people get stronger following injury and/or surgery and has developed pilates programmes for clients who have had hip and knee replacements, back pain, broken bones and cancer. She is skilled at adapting her pilates sessions to suit everyone’s needs and believes firmly ’that the trick is to keep moving’.

Jan delivers both in person and online pilates. Her studio base is in the Trinity area of Edinburgh where she teaches mat classes and 1:1 or 1:2 'buddy' sessions.  She also teaches mat classes and individual sessions online.  This has become increasingly popular due to COVID but also because clients are finding they can more easily fit online workouts into their busy schedules.
